Frequently asked questions

How to convert TAR to GZ in ConvertLab?+

Choose your TAR file, select GZ, then proceed to preparation. Check the displayed options and click "Start conversion." After processing, download the result and open it in your target application. Simply selecting an output does not send your file.

Is the conversion from TAR to GZ free?+

This conversion is part of the free offer: up to three files per submission, ten files per day, and one video per day, with a maximum of 100 MB per file. The daily quota is shared per IP address; multiple people on the same network can therefore share it.

What elements should be checked in the result?+

Open the archive obtained in your usual software. Compare the number of files, their names, and some extracted documents. Only delete the original archive after this verification.

Why did I receive a TAR.GZ file?+

Gzip compresses a stream, while TAR groups the files of a folder. The engine therefore combines the two to preserve the contents of a multi-part archive. Open the TAR.GZ with compatible software, then check the extracted files.

Does converting an archive change the documents inside?+

The goal is to change their container, not to convert each document. A PDF in an archive remains a PDF. To change its format, extract it and then use the Documents theme.

Will a ZIP archive necessarily be smaller?+

No. JPEG photos, videos, or already compressed archives may shrink very little. Compare the size and prioritize especially the format that your recipient knows how to open.

What to do if the conversion fails?+

Read the displayed message: a size limit, a reached quota, and an unsupported format require different actions. Check that the file opens locally, then try again with a lighter copy if necessary. If the problem persists, contact support with the formats, size, and error message, without attaching sensitive data.
