Not all outputs retain the same tracks. If the engine indicates that a MKV container is required, go back to the output selection and choose MKV instead of forcing a conversion that would remove elements. This output may fall under NoLimit.
How many videos can I convert for free?
The free offer allows one video per day, within the total quota of ten files and the limit of 100 MB per file. A batch of three files does not add three video rights: the video quota remains shared. A valid NoLimit access adjusts the limits according to the displayed offer.
What is it?
WMV is Microsoft's video format, for years installed by default on every PC. It refers both to a container and to a family of proprietary codecs.
It was designed at a time when Microsoft sought to control the entire chain, from encoding to playback — and when digital rights management was still a selling point.
History & origin
The format emerged in the late 1990s alongside Windows Media Player, in direct competition with QuickTime and RealPlayer.
Its most refined version, WMV 9, was standardized as VC-1 and was even used on Blu-ray discs, before H.264 took over almost everywhere.
Why it is useful
Good compression for its time, and seamless integration into the Windows ecosystem.
It still plays back without any installation on virtually any PC.
Limits & drawbacks
Outside Windows, playback is a hassle: Macs, phones, and TVs handle it poorly.
Some files are locked behind digital rights management that simply prevents playback elsewhere. The format has stopped evolving.
